Hadid became the first woman to receive both the Pritzker Architecture Prize and the RIBA Royal Gold Medal. Her larger legacy is permission: a generation of architects saw that radical spatial ideas could move from paper into public life.
Hadid’s early drawings were not secondary illustrations of buildings waiting to be constructed. They were instruments for discovering forms of space that conventional plans and elevations struggled to describe. Fragmented perspectives, fields of movement and apparently weightless structures challenged the visual habits through which architecture was imagined. Representation became a form of research.
As digital design and fabrication developed, ideas that had circulated through paintings and competition proposals entered constructed work at new scales. The resulting buildings are often discussed through curves and dynamism, but their significance is not reducible to appearance. They reorganize circulation, structure and program around continuity and flow. Visitors understand the geometry through movement; the building changes as the body advances.

Her work widened the range of futures architecture could claim. The movement people recognize in the buildings begins with that intellectual refusal to remain still.
